World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD)

The Elder Abuse Prevention Network is a collective of organisations, led by Mpower, who work together to increase awareness of elder abuse and its drivers within the community and provide community based primary prevention.

World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) is acknowledged each year on June 15th, with purple being the colour representing elder abuse prevention and this year’s theme “Beyond Age – changing the conversation”.

The South West EAPN invited the community to ‘paint the town purple’ through distribution of information packs to CBD businesses as well as through decorating local Warrnambool statues with purple scarves (group photo attached).

The EAPN also held the ‘Spirited, Wise & Wonderful’ photo exhibition at the Warrnambool Library & Learning Centre from June 11 – 19th, a photographic exhibition celebrating the stories of our community members aged 65 and over.
